00462 No Backlight when waking

Once this mac goes to sleep the screen backlight will not come on with key press, lid close/open, etc... the Keyboard backlight works as it should goes off during sleep, wakes after lid open, etc.. SMC_LID is consistent 3v3. I tried Clean ME, updating, upgrading, external OS. Also, Image is there when waking just no LCD Backlight. I replaced U7701 as I wasn't sure if there was any controls tied to it to wake. I did notice while loading MOnterey on it, if I waked it from sleep the backlight would come on as it should. I don't have a KNOWN good bios, but I could try one from donor. Do you have good one?

Just tried el capitan and it does work. Sometimes a big delay but does wake. SMC firmware needs update maybe? I wonder if a certain OS load would resolve it?

I checked system info vs. 2015 00138 board and the only difference i see there is the 00138 is running system firmware version 428.60.3.0.0. The one that isn't waking is running 428.40.10.0.0. It seems like its' almost like it didn't get a firmware update. Wondering what OS might be best to update it.

No luck. I was having issues getting a small SSD update which maybe is related as I found some info regarding certain OWC sSd's that require latest Monterey update but usually those will fail the firmware update if not done first. I've tried a couple of different SSD's both Samsung just to see if any related reason. It is still studck on 428.40.10.0.0.

Is there another way to tie the kb backlight signal to LCD backlight trigger?

Mark this as solved. The fans were in general running higher than what I thought normal. No troubles found when running diagnostics. I decided to swap the SMC and it now wakes normally and fans are no longer running high. Case ended up not related to firmware or software.

I had already replaced the SMC once due to an initial bad SDA or SCL line and that first placement of SMC went very well so I was pretty confident but I did reheat it and light tap to make sure balls had opportunity for good contact prior to replacing for the second time. The only reason I replaced the SMC again was that seems to be common cause for higher fans when trackpad and battery are ruled out and otherwise unknown reason for high fans.
