2012 Macbook Air audio port problems.

Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with the following issue.
Macbook Air wont automatically switch from internal speakers to headphones when I insert the headphones. The only way it will switch is if I insert the headphones, then close the lid so that the computer
goes to sleep, then open the lid to wake it out of sleep. Once it comes out of sleep the output goes from internal speaker to headphones.

This is a very odd problem and I have tried with several Operating systems.

Anyone seen this before?

Totally forgot that the port is on the IO board. Probably just that or the cable. SMH.

Have you tried different i/o board?? Macbook airs have Audio ic circuitry on i/o boards
