820-000165A - no light on the charger and no power

Hi Guys,

I’m having a A1466 board (820-000165A) here with no light on the charger(on DC power supply) and no power.

F7140 has 8.16V on both sides

I don´t have:

- PP5V5
- PP3V3S5
- an enable on U7501 on Pin 12
- signs of liquid damage

partially green light with OEM wall charger

Any help is appreciated.

Did you try known good LIO board/flex?
Disconnect LIO flex and check if 3V3_S5 appears.

Missing SMC_PM_G2_EN is sign of SMC issue.
Do you get Y5110 oscillation?
Check voltages and signals for U5000 (2 OF 2) at page 37.

No luck without teaching I/O cable.
Y5110 has 3,4V on Pin 3, Nothing on Pin 1.
Please feel free to check my readings attached

Looks like SMC doesn't work.
In such case you should find aprox 1.1V on both pins of Y5110.
Try changing Y5110, R5110, C5110/11.
If still the same, reball SMC; change it at least chance.

Thanks, just changed and rebelled, nothing different. Just ordered preprogrammed SMC from CN.
Very responsive support!!!!

So I received the SMCs from China, no green then orange light, the board goes straight to 500mA and stays there, CPU is getting hot. No short in that area.

Did you check USB activity and external video?
PLT_RESET_L goes high?

F7140 exact voltage, without battery?

There's USB activity, but no video output. Fan is spinning really fast.

R2071 3,3V
F7140 8,16V (with and without without battery)

PPBUS_G3H is incorrect.
Post voltage and diode mode to ground on SCL/SDA lines of battery bus.

Are you really sure about USB activity?
Read this thread...

I was talking about battery bus.
Checking pins 4 & 5 of J6950 is not good enough???

As you get identical values, the SMC may not correspond to this board, or has problems.
Be sure, R7100 is good and change U7100.
If still bad PPBUS_G3H, then get correct SMC from donor board.

"Are you really sure about USB activity?"
???

Sorry for being stupid, I'm not an expert, that's why I participated here.
I thought everything would help.
Yes I'm sure.IMG_5754.jpg

Yes, I read and did what you wrote. No change. But please check this out. From What I thought, that the SMC is programmed, this Chinese seller doesn't confirm.Bildschirmfoto 2021-05-31 um 12.55.30.pngBildschirmfoto 2021-05-31 um 12.55.30.pngBildschirmfoto 2021-05-31 um 12.55.39.pngBildschirmfoto 2021-05-31 um 12.55.44.pngBildschirmfoto 2021-05-31 um 12.55.55.png

"Yes, I read and did what you wrote."
So you can confirm 100% USB activity, as explained on that thread???

The seller showed SMC on cuted boards, so must be already programmed.
However, I recommend to buy full scrap boards (when available).
Only few bucks more and you will get a lot of MOSFETs, ICs and passive components too.
And of course, you can be sure the SMC is from the board model you need.

I never got bad SMC from China, but is good to suppose a 5% failing rate; buy more than one board, is better.

So I received the board with the SMC and placed on mine. The board has now 8,5V on F7140.
But still not turning on. Stuck still at 500mA and not charging. SMC reset did work by shorting with tweezers, but didn't make any difference. Under thermal I saw U4500 getting warmest as well as the CPU
