820-00165-a PPBUS 8.2 and battery not deteced.

Hi everyone,


Got 820-00165-a (mba 2017) badly water damage that wasnt turning on. Now all repaired, reballed SMC and now it work fine, all main lines are ok except of PPBUS is 8.2V.

SMC is already reballed. ANother issue is that it doesnt detect the battery.


Any idea where to check? All that was burnt damaged had been replaced.

P.S: ISL625 pins 17/18 and 27/28 are ok 4ohms and 20 ohms.

You very likely have a bad SMC PPBUS should be 8.56. Try a new SMC

I guess that SMC cant be replaced. I remember that informaticos told it in some posts. Can you confirm?


Also CHGR_AMON 0.2 and BMON 5V

You CAN replace the SMC MUST come from an identical donor board. So you need to pull one from an 820-00165 donor board.

Check first diode mode and voltage on SCL/SDA lines of battery bus.
Do you get orange light on Magsafe conector?

R5380/81 pin 2 in diode mode (red to ground) are both 0.530. Yes i get green than orange as light.


PS Voltages : SDA - 3.4V and SCL 2.7V.

Computer boots with charger plugged and run from battery but in system it's not recognized. But it doesnt turn on with only battery connected.

If diode readings are equals, then likely SMC issue.
However, change ISL6259 first.

can one tell me if macbook air 2015 and 2017's smcs are same? BOth boards are 820-00165-a but after putting 2015's smc on 2017 board it doest give me green light ( PPBUS is now 8.6

820-xxxx code is what you need to match every time when replace a SMC from donor board...

Well, tried new smc and seems that donor board is already had SMC fucked. I have no more donor boards.

Can anyone tell me if this https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1000...chweb0_0,searchweb201602_8,searchweb201603_52 is already programmed and can be installed? Any other place to get SMCs programmed.

It's SMC fail because puttin one generic it starts but graphics are 5MB:

No bad bad idea. Only order donor boards and pull it yourself. Waste of time to buy "new" SMCs. Probably bullshit.
