820-00165 charging issue

Hi,

Got 820-00165 with liquid damage on ISL625 area. It wasnt turning on. Changed ISL reconstructed some traces. Now it turns on, from powr adapter and battery but not charging. PPBUS is 8.20V that means that there is a problem with SMC but it is turning on.


All rails except PPBUS are ok. Any idea?

Do you get orange light on Magsafe?
Did you try known good battery?

Post voltage and diode mode on SCL/SDA lines of battery bus.
Be sure to have good solders and traces on pins 10/11 of U7100.

Yeah do you get a light on the charger? Is the battery recognized in OSX? My guess would be same as 2informaticos possibly bad soldering on pins 11 of ISL or bad ISL. Also possible bad SMC but that is the last thing to check.

Yes. It was bad soldered pins. Repaired traces again and now PPBUS is 8,47 and computer working fine. Is it important that 0,2V?

Yes very very important. 8.2 vs 8.6 on Airs and 12.2 vs 12.6 on Pros is the difference in the SMC not running vs the SMC running

No, i mean now it is 8,4-8,5 and must be 8,6. So i gues that smc is running ( it was 8,2 before fixing) Computer is working fine right now.

8.47 could be just a multimeter thing that's fairly close to 8.5. Mine always measures around 8.58 so not exactly 8.6
