820-02016 – Powers on but not charging. USB-C ports dead.

Good morning, everyone.

I received this MacBook for repair; it turns on but doesn't charge. The USB-C ports weren't working, and the AMP meter is cycling.

After inspecting the logic board, I found that C5202 was blown, and PDCIN_AON_CHGR_R was shorted. I replaced the capacitor, and now it gets 20V and 1.8 amps on the USB-C ports.

However, the problem is that when I disconnect the charger and connect it back again, it stops charging and goes to 20V 0.03 amps. The only way to make it work again is to disconnect the battery and connect it back.

I tested it with another battery, and the issue remains the same. I replaced the U5200 (ISL9240HI), but it made no difference.

Could someone please provide some guidance?

So battery is charging at the beginning?
Did you test flipping charger cable on all ports?

Yes, battery charges at the beginning after connecting the battery. If I disconnect the charger and plug it back, the battery stops to charge.
Yes, both ports on both charger side are same.

When stopped charging, battery percentage is recognized correctly at least?

Check resistance over C5220/60, in ohm scale.
Install HWMonitor and look for strange I/V sensors value.

Also check Q5265/70 voltages, in working and non-working conditions.

Yes, it still shows the battery percentage after it stop to work.
Just realise that after it stop charging just by restarting the mac it starts to recognize the charger and charge again.

While it is charging.
Q5265 – 12.23V
Q5270 – SAVE_BAT_G - 5.60V
– SAVE_BAT_S - 4.91V
- PPVBAT_AON_CONN - 12.23V

While it is not charging.
Q5265 – 12.23V
Q5270 – SAVE_BAT_G - 5.58V
– SAVE_BAT_S - 4.87V
- PPVBAT_AON_CONN - 11.42V

C5220 - 134ohm
C5260 - 130ohm rising

Regard the HWMonitor I could not find it for Mac.
What is I/V sensors?
Can I use TG Pro to check these sensors?

Must be both 2 ohm, as per schematic.
Check R5221/2 and R5261/2.

R5222 faulty.
Replaced and now the Mac is dead.
5V 0.04amp

You must get 2 ohm over C5260 too.
R5222 can't correct that; check R5261/2.
