820-1700a - possible CPU dead?

How can I verify if a CPU is dead / possibly damaged?

My first guess is to look at the CPU MOSFETs / power regulation IC, and look for a short.

My guess is I want to remove those from the board, and replace it (and any other MOSFET that is involved in the operation of the power controller), and then test with injected voltage on this rail?

How can I test if other power controllers are fine, such as ssd or etc?

Also, when do you generally inject voltage? To test the operation of a specific chip / rail without powering up the entire board?

Don't make use of voltage injection without a good reason.
We have lot of threads on the forum about HOW, WHEN to (or NOT) inject voltage.

If you find the CPU power supplies with short via between the coils and PPBUS_G3H, there is a big chance for fried CPU.
Sometime CPU escapes, but injecting voltage into PPBUS_G3H, without removing the shorted chips, may fry it.

Injecting voltage into a power rail helps to find damaged components; can't prove if a component is in fully working state.
