Arrived with typical horizontal lines on screen.

replaced GPU and board now boots into OS but runs very slow.

passed ASD test and fans are running at normal speed.

on HW monitor gpu die and airport proximity are 128C

What should be checked next?

Connect external monitor and check againg GPU die temp.
Also try another airport module/cable.

Check for knocked off componentes, related with U5550.

With external monitor only the lag goes away, GPU die temp goes to normal.

How can the internal screen cause the lag? Does it need to be replaced to solve the issue?

Do you mean the machine works good with external monitor connected?
In such case, you have a problem with iGPU.
External monitor connection automatically enables discrete GPU.

is "iGPU" considered the AMD GPU?

iGPU reffers to Intel Graphics, integrated into CPU.
Discard a RAM issue first.
Try one known good DDR module at a time, each slot separately.
