I have this board which works fine with one memory slot, but does the 3 beeps if I insert any memory module in the second slot. I don't know from where to start. I have read about a testing memory card which I don't have and don't plan to buy given the age of the board. What could I do?

The fastest and safest way is to max out the working slot.
You can resolder the pins close to the edges of the other slot; may be just waste of time...
