Hi I have a question let’s say I have to remove a gpu and replace it . I have a quick station and do it by hand. Is it worth getting a bga rework station. I’ve done 3 Gpu in various boards so far and well it’s a little nerve racking. I was gonna attempt a mux replacement on but I’m not sure I can pull this of with the station I have now. Since the area is so densely populated. I’ve never Tried. What are the advantages of own a bga station if any. I’m sorry if this isn’t the place for this in the forum as I don’t know where it should go.
thank you

If you really did that with only hot air station, than MUX replacement must be more easy for you.
No need of BGA rework machine, to replace such small chip, similar of SMC.
However, a small prheater, like Mlink 853A, is a good help.
Also remove CPU heatsink always, as it disipates lot of heat.

Stop to rework GPUs without proper BGA rework machine...

I’ll Iook in to a pre heater thanks.I just hesitant as I wasn’t sure if it was mux or not. It’s getting Burning hot so I’m assuming it’s internally shorted. I’ll pull and if it isn’t I’ll re-ball it. I’m also stuck on a short in this board. :(
