This happens on charger only?
Disconnect battery and test it more time on charger only.

In fact, I have two similar cases... one works fine, if I close the lid for just a couple minutes, it wakes up just fine, but if I leave it for a couple hours, it doesnt turn on again. That is a 820-4924
For the other case it works fine and working with the battery it does it, it suddenly turns off and then you can turn it back on with no problem, the model of the mother board is: 820-3476 (I´m sorry I started the post with other model....) I have 2 boards with this problem, it is not thermal paste or anything to do with software... is there a common problem for this boards?

As I said, test without battery connected and see if still have problems with wake up from sleep mode.
Also find known good battery, for test.
And finally, use original Magsafe 2 charger; 1 -> 2 adapters are known to generate issues with backlight and wake up...
