820-3662 Working fine on charger, battery detected and charging but won't run on battery - PP3V42_G3H looks OK

Thank you to anyone taking the time to read this!

Was a liquid damage six months ago, had a bath, a change of battery and was working fine. Since then, customer may have mentioned the battery started to perform poorly but in any case quickly and now does not run on battery alone.

It charges, coconut battery says health is good, and this a new battery again (as I took the problem at face value and just purchased a new battery - doing the test on the battery that was installed after the liquid cleaning gives all the same results) that is all to say I'm confident the battery is good.

I found a couple of Rossmann videos both ended up on the G3H supply and the diode D7005 (on this board) that connects the charger and battery into U7090. However both the resistors going into D7005 and D7005 seem good - I get the right resistance on R7005 (and R7020) with the battery connected and no MagSafe I get 12.05V on pin 2 of D7005 and 11.81V on pin 3. U7090 has 3.42V on pin 4

I realise there is a little drop on D7005 but could that be the issue? I thought not as 11.81V seems in range and 3.42V out of U7090 look correct to my untrained eye.

I'm not yet clear to attempt these repairs, really wanted to take some measurements to have a better idea of what was wrong. I'm sure the customer will be happy with us making such repairs but I'm not Louis level component repair experienced (obviously) and as the Mac otherwise works fine I'd really like to be confident I'm not going to make it worse before recommending a course of action to the customer!

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Ok, cleared to do the repairs - but I'd still like to assess as much as I can before making anything hot. I want what's best for the board so if it has to be shipped to a specialist, so be it!

First of all, welcome to the forum!

If I correctly understood, you get correct 3V42_G3H with only battery (no charger connected)?
Machine turns of when you unplug Magsafe?

Does it make any attempt to turn on with battery alone?

Check for corrosion around U5110.
Be sure to get correct voltage at pins 1/3, only with battery.

Thank you for the welcome and moreover for your reply!

With just the battery connected I get 3V42_G3H, I do also get 3V42_G3H with the Magsafe (and no battery) connected or any combination ;)

Yes, the Mac turn off completely and instantly when the Magsafe is disconnected.

With just the battery connected the Mac makes no activity when power button pressed - not even a fan twitch.

Just checking U5110 now...

For ref, the other U5110 pins;
1 - 3.42V
2 - gnd
3 - 3.42V
4 - 2.75V
5 - 80mV
6 - 3.4V
7 - 3.41V
8 - 3.3V

"5 - 80mV"
Really bad, missing SMC_RESET_L.
Be sure R5127 is 0 ohm.
Change U5110, may have bad internal contacts.

Ok, that's the most promising thing I've read all day :)

Setting that up now, will post results back here as soon as - Thank you!
