So this machine runs fine battery is detected and charging.

issue is it wont turn on unless power adapter is plugged in.

I cannot pinpoint the issue any ideas? This board had prior water damage and was cleaned by someone else.

seems like the power button is unresponsive until adapter is plugged in.

it runs off of battery and charges just fine. keyboard is fully responsive its just when its turned off and unplugged that it wont respond to the power button.

also tested in a known good machine and same issue

Yes it is and noticed that once i shut it down it wont respond to power button but it will respond if i hold power button for 5 seconds.

replaced isl and nothing changed lines and resistors to bmon and amon are fine. Even reflowed smc still no change. Could smc be bad or maybe bad caps on amon bmon?

ASD returns no errors traces and resistors have no corrosion tested traces all are ok.

swapped smc and its still exhibiting the same behavior only now it wont turn on if i hold the power button for 5 seconds only when i unplug battery and drain power by holding power for 10 seconds. re-plugging and pressing power.

I also noticed that when i dont boot into an operating system and i shut it off whether it be after entering asd, boot menu or waiting for folder icon with no hard drive plugged in it will still turn on every time. only when booting into an operating system and shutting off it wont turn on.

I think OSX will set something in NVRAM to remember the shutdown.
Other way machine starts itself when charger is connected.

PRAM reset done? Same issue when shorting the power pads on the board to rule out a bad keyboard. Check voltage on the power pads too.

Yeah same issue with power pads so not the keyboard. I have since returned the laptop to the customer but wish we could have solved it. Ill save the thread for next time.
