A1466 820-00165-02 dead

Hello,

Ihave an A1466 820-00165-02 that has green light, fan spin, but with no USB activity (apparently), that consumes about 500mA (starts normal arround 50mA and stops at arround 450 - 550 mA) on the bench power supply, but seams to be dead. It doesn't do anything.

The client reports that he had water contact some years ago, and didn't work anymore since. Right now it dosen't shows any liquid damages (maybe it had ultra-sonic cleaning)

Where should i start? Witch rails should i check first?

Cna you help me?

Check all SPI Bus Series Termination resistors and traces.
You may need to remove J6100, if you don't need it to access SPI chip.
Also try known good working BIOS file; several links posted on the forum.

Do you get PLT_RESET_L?

I´m sorry, but can you please specify the SPI Bus Series Termination resistors?

PLT_RESET_L is 3.3V

Thank you so much..

Sorry, i looked for it but didn't found them...

Everithing looks OK and can't see damages on tracks. All comunications bettewn test ponits and the resistors seams to be ok. Here are the resistors readings:

R6133 = 42.80 ohm
R6132 = 42.07 ohm
R6128 = 24.96 ohm
R6127 = 42.60 ohm
R6126 = 42.46 ohm
R6125 = 42.80 ohm
R6110 = 14.99 ohm
R6111 = 15.06 ohm
R6112 = 14.99 ohm
R6113 = 15.03 ohm
R6118 = 14.99 ohm
R6119 = 15.05 ohm
R6120 = 43.03 ohm
R6121 = 42.58 ohm
R6122 = 42.45 ohm
R6123 = 24.95 ohm
R6130 = 43.30 ohm
R6131 = 42.66 ohm
R6114 = 24.99 ohm
R6115 = 14.94 ohm
R6116 = 15.05 ohm
R6117 = 14.96 ohm

Do you want me to remove the J6100?

Can't find the bios link on the forum, can you help with that?

Hello again.
My bios programer just died, and so I stole another BIOS from a donor board (820-00165-A).
Now, the laptop has other behavior: It consumes about 3A (starts at 50 mA and reaches 3A), the keyboard is responding (power on and power off at least), fan spin, cpu gets hot, fan keeps spinning on battery only, but it has no USB activity, no image (even on external monitor), and no chime.

I don't know if it is processing anything or if it just has no image.

What should I check from here?

You must discard BIOS issue trying known good working file.
There could be broken solders/traces, especially underneath BGA chips.
You should reball SMC.

Hello,
I've flashed the BIOS with the new file, but no success. Same behavior.
After reballed the SMC, it became worst... now it has no green light and no fan spin. Drawing 0.24A on bench PS (I have 3.3V in SMC_RESET_L).
What should i do next? Can i mesure something to know if the SMC is damaged?

Hello again,
I've reballed the SMC again, but with the same result. Is ther any way for me to be sure that the SMC is OK? What do you think I should do next?
Thanks

No USB activity, but assembled, the keybord responds to the power on buttun, and SMC reset. It consumes about 3A, and the CPU gets hot..

Looks like bad CPU now.
You can try to heat it until 180-200 degress, for 15-20s.
You may have luck to be only accumulated crap issue...

hi, i just realize that it has a long screw damage, just above the C7648 (cooler heatsink screw hole).
Is there anyway to repair it (like on iphones) Where can i find the layer boards schematics, to try to jumper?
