Hi everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro A1398 15" (Board 820-3662-03) in the shop for repair.
The MacBook powers on fine when connected via MagSafe. It initially came in with a "battery not charging" issue, and if you disconnected the power adapter, the machine would die instantly.
I installed a new battery, which is now charging, and the MacBook runs perfectly on battery power alone. However, I noticed some strange power draw behavior: When turning on the MacBook for the first time after reconnecting the battery, it pulls up to 3.2A, then the charger resets/drops out. It tries again, pulling up to 2.5A, resets again, and finally settles at a steady 1.0A to charge the battery.
Since it identifies the charger but only pulls a reduced, throttled current, I suspect the issue might be caused by a faulty current sensing circuit.
Since I haven't been able to find the schematics and boardview for this specific board (820-3662-03) online, could anyone point me in the right direction? Any advice on where to start measuring or how to locate the current sensing issue on this board would be highly appreciated.
