Touchpad has firmware in the STM32F103B6 MCU and if incorrect keyboard is used with incompatible firmware it will cause this issue. Keyboard and touchpad must be for the exact same model number, a lot of Aliexpress sellers don't know what they are selling.

As far as I know there must be communication between LED driver on main logic board and backlight controller on LCD T-Con board for backlight to work on Retina displays. Messing with 40V around an LCD connector is a good way to damage it too so I wouldn't recommend it.
