This board has water damage. Someone else put it through an UC, wiping clues, but something remains: J6700 has loose pins for PP5V_G3S_FAN_CONN and PP5V_G3S.
Measurements...
This board came in with only slight corrosion on U7701 and no backlight. I replaced U7701 and got backlight back, but not completely. On the left half of the screen only half of the leds are on, resulting in a row of dark spots. I tried different screens first, but they show the same pattern...
PPBUS is 8.6V
PP3V3R3V0_AON 3.26V
battery LED is on
PP3V3_S5, PP3V3_S5_EN and P5VS4_PHASE are all constantly jumping around, cant get a proper measurement but they're certainly not ok.
CPUvcore is at 0V and not cycling.
Should I pack this thing back up or is there anything to check out?
Customer says this machine stopped working from one day to the next. I went over the board and all connectors and found no signs of liquid or other damage.
All four ports sit at 5.18V with a 60mA current draw.
PP3V3_G3H_RTC_X is at 3.3V
PP20V not shorted to ground.
I understand what to do when...
Board came in clean looking, no corrosion spotted anywhere so far. It drew about 2,5 amps at ~4 volts and didnt switch to 20V.
PPBUS_G3H and PP20V_USBC_XB_VBUS_F were shorted to GND
Q3100 had an internal short, bridging PPDCIN and PP20VB. replaced it.
Q3200 replaced just in case. pads for both...
This one came in with liquid damage that was repaired by someone else. U2890 and some components around it were replaced, flux was still on there.
This board powers up fine and shows an image on external display, but not on the built-in screen. No corrosion around J8500 or the board to board...
This board has past liquid damage, has been repaired by someone else and now got liquid damaged again, again been to someone else and now ended up with me after they gave up.
About half the IC's on the board have flux there, so either replaced or just reflowed/retouched. To make things worse, a...
This board has no visible damage. It seemed like a straightforward issue, as I found PP5V_S5 to be shorted to GND. I traced it to C8270, which had shorted for unknown reasons. After removing it, the short was gone, but still no power on PP5V_S5. I replaced U7650 with a good looking one from a...
This board came in with nasty old liquid damage. I hooked it up and smelled magic smoke. Found a short somewhere between U3890 and D3895 on T29BST_BOOST
I got rid of the IC and all surrounding components, but that didnt remove the short. Digging around removed it, I thought, leaving the rail...
This macbook was dropped by the owner; it has a green magsafe but wont power on. no fan spin
Measurements:
S5 rails are present, S3 and up aren't
SMC_RESET_L - present
SMC_BATLOW - 0V, no pulse when shorting SMC_ONOFF_L and not shorted
SMC_PM_G2_EN - present
PM_SUS_EN - 0V.
Unless I'm...
See attached image... I'm curious what they're there for. I'm guessing its so those four points come into (soft) contact with the bottom plate, but why would that be desirable? Reduce vibrations from the fan, or sound from the keyboard? Same for the rubber covers on the display hinges.
Previous work done on this one.
at first, PPBUS_G3H and PP3V42
U7000 was poorly soldered, replaced it just to be sure.
No green light. Checked with three different I/O boards.
SYS_ONEWIRE is hovering somewhere between 0 and 1.2V.
SMC_BCACOK = 3.4V
SMC_RESET_L = 3.4V
PPBUS_G3H = 8.2V
I've...
I'm curious what steps you guys take to test a repaired machine and how you guys do it.
Myself, when a repair was an obvious fix like a missing component, damaged lvds connector or blown filter someplace, I'll check whatever wasn't working and if its fine, then I assume the rest of the machine...
This macbook came in with no signs of current or past corrosion anywhere to be found. Board looks as new.
History: machine would sometimes shut down and work again for a while when started up again.
Later, it only worked in safe mode, up until the current state: it wont power up at all.
no fan...
A while ago I got a couple 2012+ iMac SSD upgrade jobs from a local business. I hadn't taken a screen off of one of those yet, but things went smoothly.
For Macbooks, I use 3M 300LSE to tape lcd bezels back on. It is strong stuff, so I figured I could use it to put these iMac screens back on. I...
No liquid damage, and no visible damage at all. F7140 is dead and has 0 Ohm to ground on pin 2 (PPBUS_G3H). I hooked up my lab supply and fed it 1V first, then 1.7. CPU didnt warm up. I eventually ended up at 8V with a 3 amp draw, but couldnt find any component heating up. Is this a short to...
I ordered a couple of A1278 keyboards from one of my suppliers, who normally ships good stuff. Two of them are 'okish' and one is terrible. See below for just how terrible:
This isn't from improperly seating the keyboard or not cleaning or whatever. It looks just like that when you take it...
This macbook came in not turning on. Customer tells me no liquid, no fall, bump or anything. She used it normally the day before, next day it wont switch on.
I take it apart - logic board is completely clean and pristine both sides, all connectors/jacks. Nothing nasty anywhere.
Before you ask...
The board where I fixed the magsafe light earlier came back no longer starting up. Magsafe light still works. It has booted up once since I got it back, but mostly refuses to. It came in originally with corrosion, which cleaned up good and left the machine functional, but its not so hot now...
