820-00165 sleep mode when plugged in

Hey folks,

I have a weird problem with an 820-00165 board. When I plug in the MagSafe the backlight and LCD go out (I am guessing it goes in sleep mode). Unplug the charger and it’s back up. Also good to note that there is no light on the MagSafe.

I have tried a new I/o board and connecting flex.

Can someone help me with which lines I can start checking?

Check first SMC_LID signal in both cases.
Inspect J9500 pin solders.
The audio and left USB port work?

The board turns on with charger alone (without battery)?

Turns on with battery but as soon as you plug in the charger the screen goes blank but fans keep spinning. When I unplug the charger the screen comes back on.

If I leave the dc in connector plugged in but disconnect the I/0 connector flex then we don’t get the problem and will get lightning bolt on the system.

Okay so

SMC_LID is

4.5v DC-IN board connected
2.5 with DC-IN board connected
pulsing with charger plugged in

confirmed backlight is going out with charger connected.

changed smc lid pull up resistor but same problem.

3v4 G3H remains constant (Good)

I'm wondering how do you get 4.5V into 3V42 signal line.
BTW, in which scenario do you get 2.5V???

"Inspect J9500 pin solders."

PP3V42_G3H doesn't make its way to the DC-in board, usually caused by bad FFC or J9500 indeed…
