MacBook A1466 2015 820-00165 No Fan Spin.

Hi,

Need help with a 820-00165 board. Green light and then goes amber but no fan spin. I checked all power rails and found PP5V_S4RS3 missing. I followed louis’ video
and as correctly pointed out PM_SLP_S4_L missing. Checked the link from R6125 and R6012 to test point and test point to R1548 and they are just fine. So what next. Is it the bios or CPU. Any further suggestions..

First of all, welcome to the forum!

Do not suspect BIOS, untill power on sequence is completed.
Do you get 3V3_S5/SUS?

Post PM_BATLOW_L, PM_DSW_PWRGD, PCH_DSWVRMEN, PM_RSMRST_L and PM_PWRBTN_L.
Trigger SMC_ONOFF_L and check for drop pulse at PM_PWRBTN_L at same time.

3V3_S5 – 3.3 v
3V3_SUS – 3.3v
PM_BATLOW_L – 2.07v
PM_DSW_PWRGD – 3.41v
PCH_DSWVRMEN – 3.3 v
PM_RSMRST_L – 2.3 mv
PM_PWRBTN_L – 1.4 v
Sorry i don't have a scope and can't check for pulse at PM_PWRBTN_L

You don't need an o-scope to see if a voltage tries to appear, or not.
However, is not the case here, as you are missing previous signals required.

Check for corrosion around U8130.
Be sure R8133 is good.

Checked U8130 and seems clean. R8133 measures 99.2k. This board has no history of water damage and is pretty clean.

Will need help sorting this.
F7140 - 1.4v on both sides.
R7185 - 16.5v on pin 1 and 6.36v on pin2.
R7186 - 6.36v on pin1 and 3.7mv on pin2.
Looking for further guidance.

If you had 3V3_S5 in the first post, PPBUS_G3H was good.
Something happened when you've changed the U8130.

Check for short on all big coils.
Post diode mode to ground on PPBUS_G3H.
And basic voltages for U7100; pins 1, 2, 3, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 27.

Please correct me if I am wrong.. you want the above readings with U8130 off the board or should I solder it back on the board and then give you the readings. This reading of PPBUS_G3H is with U8130 off the board.I have not changed U8130. I removed U8130 and checked PM_RSMRST_L for high as instructed and I happened to check PPBUS_G3H and it showed 1.4v. Sorry for the long post but I am a little confused here....

Reading as requested with U8130 not soldered.

Check for short on all big coils – No short on any coils.
Post diode mode to ground on PPBUS_G3H. – 2.378
And basic voltages for U7100;

pins
1 - 3.9mv
2 - 16.29v
3 - 4.28v
9 - 0.38mv
12 - 3.41v
13 - 2.95v
14 - 3.13v
15 - 57.3mv
17 - 1.41v
19 - 5.1v
20 - 5.1v
27 – 16.1v

Something happened when you've removed U8130.
It is far away of U7100, I have no idea what else you've touched.

Change C7125 and Q7130.

"diode mode to ground on PPBUS_G3H. – 2.378"
This doesn't look like diode mode.
Keep in mind, ALWAYS measure diode mode with red probe on ground.
Sometime need to invert the leads too.
You should get 0.100-150 and OL for black on ground.

Replaced Q7130 and I got 3.9v on F7140 and no fan spin. Second time i switched on i get a fan spin. I installed the heat sink and powered up again. Fan spin and C7370 just blew up. Any checks before i replace it and switch on.

Replaced C7370 and C7125. U7100 traces seem to be visually all fine. Resoldered U7100. Should i change Q7130 again before I power on?
