Just off the top of my head here.

Firstly, donor boards are by far the most valuable thing to have.

Aliexpress is where to buy donor boards.I would buy three of every board from 2011-2015. don't bother doubling up on air boards, just buy the 13" air boards, not 11" http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2012...-1&btsid=426877e8-56bf-40e0-94c6-5b1ca906834d is an example of 820-3115 donors.
Do not buy boards that other people have tried to fix, or boards with liquid damage as the components will be bad.

This may need a seperate forum section for DIY/hack/mods but ill add this to the tool list for smoke absorber...i like DIY when it makes sense, which is not often for bench grade tools, but this one does. With a little ingenuity you can build a fume absorber unit that's better than its off the shelf conunterpart for about half the price. Also, if you dont mind the noise, you can make a shopvac version for under $100 in parts (see item 1 only in what you'll need list) ...if you already have the shop-vac.

What youll need.

1) Loc-Line 2.5" ESD Tubes- these are your articulating arms. http://www.modularhose.com/Loc-Line-25-ID-System

2) Any Air flow Fan of preference. I prefer more cfm than most entry level fume absorbers offer. (look for low noise fans with high cfm 150-300). If you really want to get into it combining fans in series vs parrallel to adjust cfm and vacuum force... ie hg. Sky is the limit here amd you can even make whole office in-wall vacuum systems with little google research and youtube.

3) any enclosure with seperation for air filtration. I find the easiest methos for best seal is with filtration on top laid horizontally across surface. Air flow underneath

4) air filtration to absorb captured "ick". If your piping the exhuast to outside then this is not necessary.

Im making a new one now that i found the loc-line articulating tubing. This is one thing that was missing frim my DIY versions that always had me less than impressed with control of vacuum direction and overall appearance. Additional benefits to this is the granular control of vacuum arm length, options and the ability to easily and rapid adjust cfm. Ill post some pics when completed.

As an outline, my next rig will canabilize my previous and include the following:

Custom luxan enclosure with filtration pop-top (easy filter swap and the clear acrylic allows open view of filter for easier end of life determination). Dont get scared by custom fab boxes using acrylic sheets. This is easy to make with a table saw and acrylic welding liquid. Just google it.

Two 300 cfm fans (noise rating under 60db)

Dual vacuum ports from filter box. (weighing direct connect of control arm to box vs benefits of vacuum hose to control arm station) fyi vacuum hose is cheaper than loc-line...so greater travel for less money.

Power, Fan and trimmer switch

Filtrete hepa and carbon filter from walmart... Cut to size and two-ply stack.

Thats pretty much it. Not a lot parts to make these. Also, check out hack-a-day website for other options.

I've found that for short jumper wire runs I can use the wire from a MagSafe DC In board, it's probably similar to what's in a battery.

For longer runs that need to be insulated, cut open a small, mechanical relay. The coil in there will be wrapped with a LOT of enamel (insulated) wire that is just the right size for jumpers.
